Cels matched to their frame

Each of these came from a real dealer listing and was matched to the exact drawing in its film: by its lines, or by eye on a sharp copy of the film where the cel is too worn for the line test. Every report shows the frames behind it.

What each answer means

Not every cel finds its frame. When you check your own, you get one of these three answers.

Matched

The exact drawing is found. Pegbar names the frame, the second and how long the drawing stays on screen. The cel lines up with it to within an ink line, and the drawings either side clearly don’t.

Scene found

The shot is certain, the drawing isn’t pinned yet. Usually the footage on hand skips frames, and your drawing falls in a gap. Every-frame footage of that shot settles it.

No frame found

Nothing in the film lines up. That isn’t a verdict of fake. Pegbar says what it searched, shows the nearest frames, and lists what would settle it.

The frame library

What Pegbar can search today

Most film stills online are sampled, roughly one frame in every twelve or thirteen. That is enough to find the shot a cel belongs to. It is rarely enough to find the drawing, because most drawings fall between the samples.

Every-frame footage is what turns “scene found” into “matched”. The check page matches your cel against every frame Pegbar has, and the library grows one scene at a time.
